- Delivering Telco at the Edge of Australia
Urandangi, 300km South-West of Mt Isa, is one of Australia’s most remote
communities. Telstra required a rapid deployment of a solar-powered
monopole during peak summer, with delivery needed before Christmas. The
extreme environmental conditions: high heat, isolation and minimal local
infrastructure demanded an experienced, self-sufficient contractor. This was
a mission-critical communications project intended to provide Urandangi
residents with digital connectivity equivalent to that enjoyed by
Australians in major cities and towns, closing the digital divide and
enabling essential services and community access.
The Challenge
We assembled a core team of four civil crew and two licensed electricians, accommodating some members in off-grid caravans due to the absence of local facilities. Our crew executed the full scope of works including concrete foundations, solar supply and integration, site civil works and complete project oversight. Working in temperatures that at times reached up to 54°C, we delivered all works safely and efficiently within a six week deadline. Our ability to adapt, selfresource and maintain compliance ensured seamless project execution from mobilisation through to handover
Our Approach
Located over 300km from Mount Isa, Urandangi offered almost no accommodation, extreme heat and a tight pre-Christmas deadline. Crews faced logistical constraints, minimal existing services and a full tower construction- executed entirely from the ground up in a bush township with no infrastructure.
