- NBN Wireless Rollout – 55m Lattice Tower
The Beins Mountain site lay on precipitous, unstable slopes bordered by
sheer cliffs, so every vehicle movement and lift had to be choreographed
with extreme precision. Construction risk extended beyond access: sediment
runoff and vegetation disturbance threatened the fragile environment, while
the local community expected both visual subtlety and ecological care.
Geotechnical surveys revealed complex ground conditions and persistent
high-wind exposure, which in turn demanded bespoke foundation design,
specialised safety protocols and an early, proactive stakeholder-engagement program to secure approvals for a site devoid of existing infrastructure.
The Challenge
HARDLINE GROUP assembled an integrated team of geotechnical engineers, structural specialists and logistics planners who first stabilised the mountaintop with retaining walls and ground-reinforcement works, creating a secure compound for tower construction. Materials and plant were delivered in tightly sequenced stages, each lift executed under controlled conditions to avoid slope overloading. The landscaping plan blended native vegetation with tailored erosion-and-runoff controls, maintaining natural aesthetics and meeting environmental-permit requirements. Safety was maintained through daily risk assessments, steep-slope safety protocols, and environmental compliance monitoring, ensuring personnel protection while maintaining regulatory and environmental standards.
Our Approach
Despite the extreme conditions, the project was completed on time and without
adverse environmental impacts. The 55-metre tower now provides mobile and
broadband coverage across a previously unserviceable region from previously
unreachable terrain. Its elevated position ensures reliable performance, while
the reinforced compound remains protected against erosion. The project has
since been recognised as a benchmark for high-risk civil delivery in remote,
geotechnically complex locations, and praised for its engineering, safety, and
environmental excellence.
